The company's BIM manager Denis Eremin spoke in more detail about this experience during his speech at the June BIM breakfast.

On the prerequisites for the introduction of digital tools
SDS-Stroy has been operating in the regional construction market for over 15 years, acting primarily as a developer and general contractor. During this time, over 1.5 thousand square meters of housing have been built. The company's portfolio also includes industrial, agricultural, and socio-cultural facilities.

At the beginning of June, about 39 objects were at the stage of construction and installation works and about 70 were at the stage of design and pre-project preparation. In other words, the volume of work in the company is large, which prompted the management to search for digital solutions that would help automate some tasks and solve emerging difficulties.

Among such difficulties, Denis Eremin noted problems with budget calculation, control of contractual obligations, low quality of project documentation, huge volume of tender procedures that could not be taken under control by increasing staff, etc., which are quite common for large-scale projects.

As a result, under the influence of the problems described earlier, three years ago, SDS-Stroy began a comprehensive reengineering of processes and the transition to digital rails. A large-scale pre-project study was carried out, based on the results of which the company's management identified the main phases of the transformation:

Implementation of BIM technologies at the design stage
Implementing a Common Data Environment
Automation of the cost estimation process
Automation of the process of selection and control of the contractor
Project and Portfolio Management
Implementation of BIM to improve the quality of construction and assembly work
Using the results of BIM implementation to improve efficiency
Denis Eremin also showed the BIM breakfast audience a digital map with a business process scenario and data migration paths, developed during the company’s transformation.

He explained that everything is based on a digital information model, which acts as a single source of data. SDS-Stroy also developed a corporate reference book of types of work and prices, automated the formation of statements of volumes of work and materials, and optimized the process of planning construction and installation work and supplies of material resources, conducting tender procedures, etc.
