most young consumers surveyed reach for their phones first thing when they wake up in the night.

Younger consumers globally increasingly prefer to automate simple tasks , such as booking a hotel, checking into a hotel or flight, rather than speaking to a person.

Conversely, most young people still want to communicate with a person to perform more complex tasks , such as placing an order at a restaurant, shipping a package, and picking up a prescription.

Young people primarily try to get the answers they shop want via a brand's app or website . They then use chat and messaging, social media, and then, as a last resort, the toll-free number . Young Japanese respondents were the only ones more likely to call the helpline immediately after the first attempt made via the app or website.

Millennials and Gen Z demand everything now, and digital is increasingly becoming the sole means of communication . A large majority of them globally confidently imagine a future where 100% of purchases will be made digitally .

For companies to be competitive in today's market it is necessary not to remain unprepared for technological innovations that continually change users' habits and customs.

“ The smartphone is no longer an object but has become an extension of the person. It has now become an integral part of the lifestyle of the younger generations and no one could do without it ,” said Agostino Bertoldi, VP Southern Europe at LivePerson. “ Younger consumers desire digital convenience in all aspects of their lives, and this latest survey result provides good evidence of this .”
