Spain is one of the countries in the world with the most hours of sunshine per year. Investing in renewable energy and specifically in solar energy is a pending issue in our country.
Today we talk about the controversial “ sun tax ”:
On October 9, 2015, Royal Decree 900/2015 regulating self-consumption was approved. It came into force 6 months after its approval, since it gave owners of photovoltaic installations a margin to adapt to the new regulations.
Those who have installed photovoltaic panels are normally connected to taiwan business email list the electrical grid since they receive extra energy to cover their needs and at the same time they pour in energy that they do not consume. This would be self-consumption .
The Royal Decree establishes that all consumers who want to be self-sufficient but need to connect to the electricity grid as a backup must pay. If they do not do so, according to the Minister of Industry:
This would be an unfair situation, since the overall costs of the system have nothing to do with whether or not there is self-consumption. This is why the so-called “backup tariff” is applied.
The aim is for self-consumers to pay/contribute. But the logical thing would be for them to pay for this backup when they need to use the grid and not continuously as established in the Decree, hence the talk of the "tax on the sun"
Self-consumers do not receive any type of return for the energy they produce and return to the grid.
What does it consist of?
