Reels also performed better in terms of impressions across all profile sizes, with one exception. For profiles with the largest number of followers (500,000 to 1 million), Carousels got the most impressions. For all other groups, Reels came out on top.

Impressions also have a high positive correlation (0.86) with engagement.

Among engagement types, likes have the strongest correlation with impressions (0.85). Comments (0.16) and number of followers (0.12) have the weakest relationship.

This means that Reels can achieve high visibility with relatively few shares or comments, and audience size has very little impact on visibility.

This is good news for smaller creators, as you don’t need a belize phone data big platform to get lots of people to see your posts. But that doesn’t mean Reels are likely to increase your follower count: the low correlation suggests they wouldn’t have a high impact.

Of the 820,000 posts we analyzed, the number of Reels posted increased from 508 in January 2022 to 18,950 in July 2023, a staggering growth of 10,081%.

It might be tempting to attribute this shift to a handful of accounts that are fond of Reels, but the data proves otherwise. In January 2022, Reels accounted for just 15% of posts per account. Today, that number has jumped to 37%.

Instagram's promotional efforts are undoubtedly impacting the popularity of Reels, as they suggest them directly in users' feeds, as well as in a separate Reels tab.

This growth could also be due to the preference of creators and users, due to the dynamic nature of the content.
