The media no longer has power, bloggers (and you too) stole it from them

Ben Thompson is the (brilliant) brain behind the Stratechery blog , a phenomenon in the marketing and technology arena.

This blogger, who has participated today in the Online Marketing Rockstars festival , believes that the Internet has killed the traditional figure of the "gatekeeper" . And that without this figure in the middle, people have many more options when it comes to getting information, he says.

In the new digital age, anyone, absolutely anyone, can be a “rock star,” Thompson stresses . “The biggest rock star in the online galaxy right now is Donald Trump ,” he says. His fiery Twitter account certainly gives ample proof of this every day.

The Internet has democratized the production netherlands phone data and distribution of content , Thompson says. The discovery of news and current events is no longer a problem thanks to Google. And distribution is a piece of cake, the blogger says.

Although everyone talks about “paid media” and “earned media”, Thompson believes that much more important in these digital times are the so-called “inspired media” , those that pride themselves on being unique, targeting a very specific niche and peppered with tons of passion.

“Traditional media no longer have any power. They are competing with me, with Gary Vaynerchuk, with you as well ,” he stressed.

Social media, with Facebook at the forefront, has given the audience as much power (or more) than mass media. “And if Facebook is so successful it is because it is a platform without an agenda. It prioritizes engagement above all else , which has a sort of laser effect on users,” he concludes.
